Supported by the esteemed Gates Foundation, Coalition for Global Prosperity (CGP) Future Leaders program is a ground breaking initiative aiming to create a network of cross-party candidates who are empowered to speak authoritatively on foreign policy matters and engage with senior political figures.
The workshop focused on various aspects of the UK's investment in development, geopolitical priorities, and international institutions. It provided a unique platform for us to enhance our knowledge, exchange ideas, and develop valuable connections within the realm of foreign affairs.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Future Leaders program is its comprehensive approach to equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the world of foreign policy.
The 2 days came with a hugely impressive line up of speakers, which included Stephen Brien KBE, Sir Mark Lyall Grant, Professor Peter Katjavivi, Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, Sir David Omand GCB, former director of GCHQ who spoke on National Security and geopolitical risk, Julia Frifield, former Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs to President Obama and Lt Gen Richard Nuguee, Non-Executive Director for Climate Change and Sustainability at the MOD to discuss climate and national security.
Shazna loved the insightful session led by Jessica Cunniffe, a fellow Milton Keynesian, who eloquently presented strategies for effectively engaging with constituents on foreign affairs issues and building up on our speech writing skills.
In addition, it ended on a high with Professor Rana Mitter joining us for the final session. His expertise and perspective on China added another layer of depth to our discussions, leaving us inspired and motivated to play a significant role in shaping the future of foreign policy.
The dedication and passion of the organizers, speakers, and fellow attendees was truly impressive. It's evident that CGP is committed to fostering a generation of future leaders who will drive positive change and contribute to global prosperity and I was proud to have got the opportunity to be there.
Shaz looks forward to staying connected, to contribute to an essay collection and provide policy recommendations, and loved uniting with the incredible network of individuals who share a common vision for a brighter, more prosperous world.
