There has been a recent increase of unauthorised encampments in Milton Keynes, which is becoming a significant issue. From January to August 2023, there have been a total of 73 unauthorised encampments in Milton Keynes, including some spotted in Oxley Park, which took some time to remove from the redways. The responsibility to disperse these illegal encampments falls under Milton Keynes City Council's jurisdiction (MKCC).
To address this problem, we have held meetings with various parties, such as Thames Valley Police, MPs, the Police Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley, and council officers. We have also started a petition on unauthorised encampments, which we will present to the council this Wednesday, the 13th September 2023. Cllr Verma will speak on our behalf, and I will pose a question to the leader of the council.
On Friday, 8th September, we received news via Councillors news that Milton Keynes City Council will be signing up to the joint protocol with Thames Valley Police. Additionally, the Shenley Brook End Parish has organised a resident meeting on the topic, which will take place on the 13th of September at 6 pm. Officers from MKCC Environment Crime team along with officers from Thames Valley Police will be present.
