As the voice of the Tattenhoe community, we must stand together against the proposed fast-tracking of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre on Snelshall Street. Local Conservative councillors, including myself, Cllr Shazna Muzammil, alongside Cllr Manish Verma, are deeply concerned about the impacts this decision will have on our residents and the environment.
A Threat to Our Quality of Life
This proposed waste facility is alarmingly close to residential areas, raising serious concerns about increased noise pollution and traffic congestion. Our residents deserve better. The potential disruption to our community could significantly compromise the quality of life that we’ve all worked hard to maintain.
Moreover, it’s crucial to recognize that a significant portion of the proposed site falls within Flood Zone 3 and is classified as a Biodiversity Opportunity Area. Developing a waste facility in this sensitive location poses serious risks to local habitats and ecological systems. We cannot allow projects that endanger not only our environment but also the very fabric of our community.
Lack of Consultation is Unacceptable
Residents have expressed their frustrations over the glaring lack of consultation surrounding this decision. The last engagement took place back in 2020, long before recent developments in Tattenhoe Park, leaving many new residents unaware of how this plan directly affects their lives and homes. This is simply unacceptable!
One resident rightly pointed out, “It’s troubling that new voices are being excluded from this conversation. We deserve transparency and to have our concerns heard.” Their words reflect a growing sentiment that resonates deeply within our community.
Call for Thoughtful Review
As representatives of Tattenhoe, we are formally requesting a thorough examination of this decision, ensuring that community concerns are prioritized in alignment with Milton Keynes' commitment to sustainability and high-quality living standards.
We believe the Labour-led council’s approach to planning has become dangerously relaxed. By sidestepping public objections and rushing through approvals, we are compromising vital environmental and community standards, putting the future of our region at risk.
Take Action!
We must come together to demand accountability from the Council and the Labour leadership. This is why we, alongside our residents, have called the decision in for further scrutiny. The council has offered mediation for residents on the 18th of February 2025. We are urging them to halt the approval of the Snelshall waste recycling site, reopen the consultation process, and explore alternative sites that better meet our community’s strategic development needs and uphold our environmental standards.
We, as local councillors, have arranged a meeting with residents on Saturday, the 15th of February, to prepare for the mediation and also take any questions. We take pride in our green spaces, which are essential for recreation and community gatherings. Let's ensure that our hard-won quality of life in Tattenhoe is not sacrificed for hasty development plans that fail to consider our residents' best interests.
